Foldable Walking Pads: Which Design Fits Your Home? All Folded Dimensions from My Tests

“Foldable” appears on almost every product page but means very different things: some walking pads fold in the middle to a good 80 cm, others fold the handrail down and then stand upright with only 22 cm of depth, and a few do not fold at all but are simply flat. Which design suits your home decides whether the device gets used daily or ends up as a clothes rack. Here are all folded dimensions from my tests and my assessment.

Which design suits which home?

Little floor space but a free wall or niche

The vertically folding X models are the best solution here. Folded, the X214 stands at 22.5 cm deep, narrower than a bookshelf, and can be moved on its wheels. The folding mechanism of the X214 is the best in my tests, the X21 feels similar, and the X218 is a job for two hands and some strength because of its 61 kg. The drawback of all three: small transport wheels that struggle on mats and carpet.

Space under a bed or sofa

Z1, P1 and A1 Pro fold to a good 80 cm and are then 13 to 14 cm tall. Under a bed with 15 cm of clearance they disappear completely. The Z1 is the lightest at 23 kg and may also stand upright, although the belt is exposed on the folded Z1. P1 and A1 Pro should only be stored lying down.

A fixed place in the room

If you do not put the device away every day, you can skip folding altogether. The KUIPERS K1 with its solid wood frame is deliberately designed to stand visibly in an office or living room and, according to the manufacturer, may be stored permanently upright. It is sold in Germany only. The Sperax P2 Pro is so flat at 9.5 cm that it fits under most sofas even unfolded.

Walking and jogging, yet still storable

Z3 Hybrid+, MC11 and R2 fold the handrail down and then fold in the middle. Folded, they are around one metre long and 16 to 20 cm tall, so they fit behind a sofa or standing in a corner. The Z3 Hybrid+ locks need some force, but it has large transport wheels.

What to keep in mind when folding

• Unplug first: Switch off and pull the plug before folding, and always switch the device on unfolded.
• Fingers in the middle: Keep your hands in the centre when folding the deck, there is a pinch risk at the edges.
• Safety clip: On the X214, X218 and R2 a clip or lever locks the handrail. Release it first, then fold.
• Wheels and surface: Large wheels like on the Z3 Hybrid+, MC11 and A1 Pro roll over mats too, small wheels on the X21, X214 and R2 only on smooth floors.
• Weight: From 35 kg, carrying the unit to another floor becomes a two-person job. That is why the X218 is delivered right into your home.

My verdict

Foldable is not the same as foldable. Before buying, measure the space you actually have: the clearance under the bed, the depth of the niche or the corner next to the desk, and choose the design accordingly. You can find all models with their measurements in my walking pad reviews.
