Brief description

The WalkingPad X214 is the official successor to the popular X21 and sets new standards among folding treadmills. With an increased top speed of 14 km/h, side handles for more safety and clever software updates (such as the mute function), it is a true all-rounder.

The proven folding mechanism makes it extremely space-saving (only 22.5 cm deep), while the new 932-watt motor provides plenty of power. In this review you will find out why the X214 is my new go-to treadmill for the desk.

WalkingPad X214 Review

The WalkingPad X214 is the successor to the X21 and brings 14 km/h (8.7 mph), integrated side safety handles, very quiet operation with a mute function and the best folding mechanism in my test. Weaknesses: small transport wheels, no incline and a handle height that cannot be adjusted for very tall people.

WalkingPad X214 review by Timo Kirschhausen

The WalkingPad X21 was already a bestseller, but the X214 offers clear improvements in almost every area. I tested the model extensively at my desk and for running workouts. Below I share my ratings from the test in detail.

This is a single review. You can find all my other walking pad and treadmill reviews in the walking pad category.

Design & build quality ★★★★★ (4,9/5)

The X214 keeps the first-class design of its predecessor, but the revised locking system makes it feel even more premium. The folding mechanism is still my favourite, because it works extremely fast and lowers the barrier to actually exercising. At 43 kg, it is also much handier than its big brothers in the X series. The only small point of criticism remains the small size of the transport wheels, which are a bit sluggish on mats.

Detailed review

The rating tables above give you a quick overview, but numbers alone do not tell the whole story. What does the new 14 km/h mode really feel like?

How well do the safety mechanisms work? Here is my detailed test log, based on my video review and the daily kilometres at my desk.

Quick overview: what defines the WalkingPad X214

The WalkingPad X214 is the official successor to the X21 and is aimed at users who want a compact device for walking and occasional running. The key data at a glance:

  • Unfolded: approx. 142 cm long, 71 cm wide, 102 cm high
  • Running surface: 121 x 46 cm (identical to the X21)
  • Weight: 43 kg (lighter than the X218 at 61 kg)
  • Max. user weight: 110 kg
  • Speed: 1–14 km/h
  • Motor: brushless, 932 watts, very quiet
  • Folded: only 22.5 cm deep, ideal for small flats

Why this data matters: The running surface is large enough for safe walking and moderate running. At 14 km/h, the device is also suitable for interval training, but the compact design makes it particularly attractive for working at a desk.

Delivery, unboxing and accessories

Delivery is by a two-person service with an appointment and a phone call an hour before arrival, which worked reliably for me. Besides the pre-assembled treadmill, the box contains:

  • Power cable
  • Emergency stop safety clip
  • Tool for adjusting the belt tension
  • Bottle of silicone oil
  • Removable smartphone/tablet holder
  • User manual

The unit arrives pre-assembled and is ready to use immediately. Unpacking is easier with two people, but with a little patience it is possible alone. The first visual impression: high-quality and well thought out.

Setup, safety and first steps

The X214 uses a vertical folding system that I personally appreciate a lot. It folds and unfolds quickly and lowers the hurdle to using the treadmill regularly. The revised locking system feels sturdier than on its predecessor.

Removing the protective film and adjusting the belt on the WalkingPad X214

Before the first use, keep the following points in mind:

  1. Centre the belt when unfolding so it does not rub on the sides.
  2. Remove all protective films (display, controls).
  3. Fold out the side handles; they are new compared to the X21 and give you safety at higher speeds.
  4. Insert the emergency stop clip. The unit will not start without it.
Inserting the smartphone and tablet holder into the pre-mounted screws of the WalkingPad X214

The holder for your smartphone or tablet simply presses into the pre-mounted screws and sits very firmly, handy if you want to keep an eye on your training data or a meeting.

Lubrication and care: how to do it right

The treadmill comes with silicone oil. Here is how to use it correctly:

  1. Cut off part of the bottle neck and remove the protective film.
  2. Lift one side of the belt and spread the oil over a wide area.
  3. Centre the belt and close it again.
Lifting the belt and applying silicone oil on the WalkingPad X214

I recommend buying 100 % silicone oil. Depending on the amount, one bottle is enough for 2 to 3 lubrications. Lubricate whenever the treadmill has been idle for a longer time or you notice friction noises.

Controls: display, app and functions

The display is clear and shows time, speed, distance and calories. The KS Fit app adds more comfort:

  • App control in 0.1 km/h steps
  • Starts with a 3-second countdown
  • Goal training: distance (up to a marathon), time or calories
  • Child lock (the treadmill can be blocked)
  • Mute function, a long-awaited update
  • Belt calibration to correct sideways drift

For working at my desk, I use the app daily. It gives you all training data in real time and makes control comfortable.

Running test, noise and safety

I tested the treadmill at all speed levels and measured the noise at a distance of about 1 metre. Thanks to good cushioning, it runs very pleasantly; I compare the feel to firm forest ground. At higher speeds, the side handles are a real plus.

If the safety key is pulled, the treadmill stops immediately. That is important for safety, especially when children or pets are in the room.

The Apple Watch can be paired via the app. Heart rate is transferred cleanly, and the app clearly shows the different training zones.

Everyday test: 2 hours at the desk

My typical use is at the desk. In one test run I walked for 2 hours:

  • Average speed: 3.3 km/h
  • Steps: ~10,500
  • Calories: 475 kcal
WalkingPad X214 under the desk with a person, app display showing 02:00:10 and 475 kcal

The WalkingPad is ideal for staying active alongside work. Important: use a height-adjustable desk (mine goes up to 127 cm) so the ergonomics are right.

Power consumption & noise

I measured the power consumption during the 2 hours. Result:

  • Total consumption: under 0.3 kWh for 2 hours
  • Cost at €0.40/kWh: approx. €0.12
Daily consumption 0.293 kWh with cost calculation 0.293 × 0.40 = €0.1172

There is a small fan that runs on afterwards, but it is very quiet and barely audible during operation.

Practical tips

  • Before every run: Check the feet and level them if necessary so the deck is straight.
  • When positioning: Make sure the surface is flat; on floor mats the small transport wheels are harder to move. Pull the treadmill rather than pushing it where possible.
  • Lubrication: Only use 100 % silicone oil.
  • Controls: Use the app for desk use and the rotary knob for quick access.

Verdict: who is the WalkingPad X214 for?

The WalkingPad X214 improves on the X21 in several ways and is my new go-to treadmill for the home office. I particularly like:

  • Comfortable, fast folding mechanism
  • New functions such as mute, Apple Watch heart rate and handles
  • Good running feel with solid cushioning
  • Very low power consumption

One wish remains: slightly larger transport wheels would improve mobility on mats. Apart from that, I have no major points of criticism.

Summary

If you are looking for a space-saving, powerful treadmill for walking and moderate runs, you will be very happy with the WalkingPad X214. It combines well-thought-out features with everyday practicality and is an excellent choice especially for working at a desk.

Frequently asked questions about the WalkingPad X214

What is the difference between the WalkingPad X21 and X214?

The X214 is faster (14 km/h), has side safety handles, a mute function for the button sounds and Apple Watch integration. It keeps the vertical folding mechanism.

How often do I need to oil the WalkingPad X214?

Whenever the treadmill has been idle for a longer time or you notice friction noises. Use 100 % silicone oil; one bottle is enough for 2 to 3 lubrications.

Does the WalkingPad X214 have an incline?

No. If you need an incline, you have to go for a different device. For the home office and running workouts up to 14 km/h, however, the X214 is my first recommendation.
