Brief description

The WalkingPad X218 is the absolute flagship of the KingSmith range. It is the first double-folding treadmill to reach a top speed of 18 km/h, which makes it suitable for advanced runners too. With a huge running surface of 140 x 51 cm, it offers more space than any other model in the series.

Despite its massive weight of 61 kg, it folds down to a depth of 29.5 cm. Clever features such as Apple Watch integration and low power consumption make it the ideal hybrid for the home office and ambitious training.

WalkingPad X218 Review

At 18 km/h (11.2 mph), the WalkingPad X218 is the fastest folding treadmill I have tested, and with a 140 × 51 cm (55 × 20 in) running surface it also has the largest deck. It folds vertically, integrates with the Apple Watch and used only around 0.13 kWh per 30 minutes in my test. The price for all that: 61 kg (134 lb) of weight and handles that are not height-adjustable.

WalkingPad X218 review and rating

I tested the WalkingPad X218 extensively at my desk and for running workouts. Below I share my ratings from the test in detail.

This is a single review. You can find all my other walking pad and treadmill reviews in the walking pad category.

Design & build quality ★★★★★ (4,8/5)

The X218 is currently the largest and most powerful model in the range. Despite its massive 61 kg, it surprised me in handling: it moves more easily than expected. The build quality is excellent, and the double folding mechanism feels even sturdier than on its predecessors (e.g. the X21). A huge plus is the two-person delivery right into your home, which makes the weight manageable on arrival.

CategoryRatingComment from the test
Material quality5.0/5Very high-quality materials, everything securely packed and protected.
Stability5.0/5Absolutely stable; the handles lock in securely.
Folding mechanism4.9/5Opens better than on the X21, feels very reliable.
Transport4.5/5Surprisingly easy to move on its wheels despite 61 kg.
Looks4.8/5Modern design, large LED strip and a clear display.

Functionality ★★★★★ (4,9/5)

With a top speed of 18 km/h and the largest running surface (140 × 51 cm), it is almost a full-size treadmill. Highlights in my test were the Apple Watch integration (heart-rate sync) and the flexibility of the programs: if an interval is too hard, you can adjust the speed without cancelling the program. Power consumption is also very efficient at roughly 4 cents for 30 minutes.

CategoryRatingComment from the test
Speed range5.0/5Up to 18 km/h, suitable for walking and running workouts (even for advanced runners).
Programs/modes4.9/511 programs plus custom; speed adjustable within a program!
Tracking/features5.0/5Apple Watch heart-rate sync, live power consumption display, app control.
Safety4.8/5Fast emergency stop, child lock via app, auto-stop when unloaded.
App integration4.8/5The KS Fit app keeps getting better, heart-rate zones are displayed very well.

Ease of use ★★★★★ (4,6/5)

The unit arrives fully assembled (“plug & play”). Operation via the rotary knob or the app is intuitive. An important note from the test: before your first real run, oil the belt and make sure to centre it if it drifts (this removes cracking noises). The only real point of criticism: the handles are not height-adjustable, which can be less than ideal for very tall people when holding on.

CategoryRatingComment from the test
Setup/start5.0/5No assembly needed, just unfold and plug in (safety clip!).
Maintenance4.4/5Manual centring with the Allen key is often needed at first.
On-device controls4.8/5Quick-select buttons (3/6/9) are very handy, display easy to read.
Desk use4.2/5Possible (desk height above 127 cm needed), but more of a fitness machine than an office tool.
Ergonomics4.5/5Huge running surface, but fixed handles (a drawback for tall users).

Performance ★★★★★ (4,9/5)

In my practical test up to 14 km/h, acceleration was smooth without any jerking. The cushioning is pleasant, and the large running surface gives you a lot of confidence. The motor is powerful enough to move heavier users (up to 136 kg) without any problem.

CategoryRatingComment from the test
Running feel5.0/5Very secure thanks to the 51 cm width, comparable to gym machines.
Cushioning4.8/5Pleasant running, well tuned.
Stability at speed5.0/5No wobbling, non-slip (especially with a floor mat).
Speed dynamics4.9/5Very smooth transitions, adjusts slowly and safely.
Suitability for serious runners4.8/5Definitely given, even for fast intervals.

Noise ★★★★☆ (4,5/5)

The motor itself is quiet. A fan kicks in after about 2 minutes and runs on briefly; it is audible but does not disturb you while exercising. Important: if the belt is not running centred, cracking noises can occur (happened in my test), but they disappear after adjusting.

CategoryRatingComment from the test
Motor noise4.8/5Pleasant, powerful.
Fan4.2/5Kicks in (audible), but necessary to cool the motor.
Belt noise4.6/5Depends on adjustment; very quiet when set up correctly.
Vibration4.7/5Low; a floor protection mat is recommended.

Value for money ★★★★★ (4,7/5)

The X218 is more expensive than its smaller siblings (X21/X23), but offers by far the most performance (“maximum performance in the range”). With the included two-person delivery and the discount available in the WalkingPad store, the price is absolutely fair for what you get.

CategoryRatingComment from the test
Price level4.4/5An investment, but justified by the performance.
Feature set5.0/5Complete package: fast, wide, smart, foldable.
Quality for the money4.9/5Very solid and durable build.
Availability4.0/5Frequently sold out due to high demand.

Detailed review

The rating tables above give you a quick overview, but numbers alone do not tell the whole story. What do real 18 km/h feel like on a folding machine?

How reliably do the safety mechanisms kick in when you push your limits? Here is my detailed test log, based on my video review and my experience with a mix of home-office use and running workouts.

Overview: what makes the X218 special?

In short: the WalkingPad X218 is a double-folding treadmill with a large running surface, a high top speed and solid build quality. It is aimed at ambitious runners as well as people looking for a reliable treadmill for home workouts and occasional jogging.

  • Unfolded dimensions: 162 cm long × 84 cm wide × 108 cm high
  • Running surface: 140 × 51 cm, the largest in the WalkingPad range
  • Top speed: 18 km/h
  • Max. user weight: 136 kg
  • Weight of the unit: 61 kg
  • Folded: 29.5 cm deep, very space-saving

Dimensions and weight matter for your decision. 61 kg is no lightweight, but the construction feels robust and the transport wheels help when moving it.

Delivery and unboxing: what to expect

Larger models are delivered by a two-person service right into your home as standard. That saves you a lot of effort, because the package is big and heavy. You get a delivery date in advance, and the drivers call about an hour before arrival.

The accessories include:

  • Power cable
  • Type G adapter (e.g. for the UK)
  • Safety key for the emergency stop
  • Allen key for fine-tuning the running belt
  • 20 ml of silicone lubricant
  • Phone and tablet holder

Transport, setup and folding mechanism

Even on your own, the treadmill is surprisingly easy to move. Important details are the protective materials at sensitive points and the folding handles, which lock in cleanly and are released with an orange lever.

Folding works reliably: the running deck locks into place and the unit can be stored in a space-saving way. When folding, keep your fingers in the middle to avoid pinching.

Before the first start: simple but important steps

Before you get going, a few steps are important so the treadmill runs quietly and reliably in the long term:

  1. Oiling: According to the manufacturer, apply 5 to 10 ml of silicone oil. The bottle holds 20 ml, enough for 2 to 4 applications. I spread the oil widely across the deck, lift the belt slightly and then distribute it.

  1. Centring: After oiling, align the belt in the middle and press it down. If the belt rubs on the side, it causes noise and increases wear.
  2. Insert the safety key: The unit will not start without it. Insert it before switching on the treadmill.

  1. Start unfolded: Always switch the treadmill on when unfolded and disconnect it from the power before folding to avoid damage.

My tip for handling the oiling

I place one foot on the rear part of the deck, lift the belt with my free hand and spread the oil evenly. Then let the belt run so the oil spreads. That makes the running feel noticeably smoother.

Display, controls and programs

The X218 has a large, high-quality display with a clear LED strip. Speed changes are smooth, there are pre-programmed intervals, and you can create your own programs.

Important controls and functions:

  • P button: Cycles through the preset programs. The higher the program number, the more intense the workout.
  • Quick-select buttons: 3, 6 and 9 allow a fast speed selection.
  • M button: Manual goals: time, distance or calories.
  • Main button: A short press pauses; the workout can be resumed within 10 minutes. A longer press ends the workout and transfers the data to the app if connected.

Programs and flexibility

New are preset programs that change the speed in intervals. I tested program 9: 30 minutes with fluctuations between 4 and 10 km/h. At times it was too intense for me, but the nice thing is that you can turn the speed down during the program without cancelling it completely. After the interval, the unit automatically ramps back up to the preset speed.

Performance test, noise and power consumption

The top speed is 18 km/h. I did not run at that pace myself, but I tested the treadmill at 14 km/h and checked the speed measurement.

WalkingPad X218 unfolded and ready for the performance test, clear view

During a 30-minute interval program, my live measurement showed a consumption of 0.13 kWh. At an electricity price of 30 cents per kWh, that is roughly 3.9 cents. That is very efficient for a 30-minute workout.

On the subject of noise: the treadmill has a fan that kicks in after about two minutes and runs on for a few seconds when needed. While jogging, it is barely noticeable. I recorded the decibel measurement at a distance of about 1 metre; during light jogging, the unit is not disturbing.

Belt rubbing? How to fix it easily

During my test, the belt drifted to the right and caused cracking noises. That is no big deal, because the correction is done quickly:

  1. Use the supplied Allen key on the rear adjustment screws.
  2. A quarter turn clockwise on the right side can tighten the belt (depending on the issue).
  3. On uneven floors, the feet can be adjusted in height manually. Make sure none of the feet is hanging in the air.

How safe is training? (Emergency stop & child lock)

The safety key responds reliably: if you pull it while running, the belt stops quickly. In addition, a child lock can be activated in the app, which prevents starting completely.

Apple Watch, KS Fit app and heart-rate transfer

A handy new feature is the option to pair the Apple Watch for heart-rate transfer. Setup works via the KS Fit app and the Health app:

  1. Install the KS Fit app.
  2. In the Health app, select the KS Fit app under Sources.
  3. Allow heart-rate synchronisation.

After that, your pulse is transferred live and saved as a graph in the workout summary. The app shows the heart-rate zones in colour, which makes it easier to control your training.

Home-office test: does the X218 fit under the desk?

The X218 can basically be used at a height-adjustable desk. My desk goes up to 127 cm; ideally you should reach that height so the display is neither too high nor too low.

Person setting up the WalkingPad X218 under a height-adjustable desk, treadmill visible under the desktop

Controlling it via the app is recommended so you can conveniently adjust speed and start/stop. If the Apple Watch is connected, your heart rate is shown and visualised in colour-coded zones. After the session you get a workout summary, and the steps are sent to the Health app if permitted.

My verdict on this: it works. However, if your main goal is working on a treadmill permanently, I would rather recommend a dedicated treadmill-desk setup. As an occasional solution, the X218 is very well suited.

Personal impressions and everyday suitability

What I liked:

  • Large, well-cushioned running surface; the belt feels very pleasant when running.
  • Sturdy, high-quality display with many useful functions.
  • Preset programs with flexible adjustment during the workout.
  • Solid folding mechanism and well-designed transport wheels.
  • Child lock, silent mode, LED strip can be switched off and a no-load stop function in the app.

What you should consider:

  • The handles are not height-adjustable. For taller people they can be harder to reach at running height, but still provide safety.
  • At 61 kg, the unit is relatively heavy. The two-person delivery therefore makes a lot of sense.
  • Availability can fluctuate. The model is occasionally sold out.

Practical tips for everyday use

  1. Oil regularly: Not only as recommended by the manufacturer, but whenever you notice friction noises.
  2. Centre the belt: Check briefly before every intense run and readjust if needed.
  3. Check the feet: None should hang in the air. Adjust them on uneven floors.
  4. Use the app functions: Child lock, no-load stop and heart-rate transfer increase comfort and safety.
  5. Use a protective mat: It protects the floor, prevents slipping and improves stability.

Verdict: who is the WalkingPad X218 for?

The WalkingPad X218 is an excellent choice if you are looking for a powerful folding treadmill suited to both walking and more serious jogging. The combination of a large running surface, high top speed and well-thought-out features makes it very versatile.

For ambitious runners who regularly want to run above 15 km/h, a more permanently installed treadmill with even stronger cushioning might make more sense. For everyone else who values flexibility, space savings and good equipment, the X218 is highly recommended.

Final notes and how to save money

If you buy this model, watch out for promotional discounts. During my test period there was a discount that was applied when adding it to the cart in the WalkingPad store. Availability sometimes fluctuates; if it is out of stock, it is worth asking or signing up for a notification.

Summary

WalkingPad X218 folded for moving, person tilting the treadmill on its handles

The WalkingPad X218 convinces with:

  • a large running surface (140 × 51 cm),
  • up to 18 km/h,
  • solid build quality and a practical folding function,
  • extensive app integration including Apple Watch support,
  • efficient energy consumption and sensible safety features.

My personal verdict: a very well-rounded product that does its job excellently in most households. For occasional runs or regular walking, it is a very good investment.
