Tired, stiff or cold hands can be really unpleasant after a long working day, sport or many hours at the desk. That is exactly what the Bob and Brad H50 is for: an electric hand massager with compression and heat that treats the whole hand including fingers, palm and wrist.

My partner and I tested the device over about two weeks and roughly 30 sessions. What made it particularly interesting for me is that I had never tried a hand massager before. To say it up front: the H50 really convinced us in everyday life.

Key takeaways

  • The H50 massages fingers, palm and wrist with individually adjustable air compression.
  • Three massage programs, three pressure levels and heat allow flexible use.
  • A session lasts 15 minutes and ends automatically.
  • In my practical test the battery lasted about five to seven full sessions.

What is in the box of the Bob and Brad H50?

The H50 comes in a neatly made box and makes a high-quality impression right when unpacking. The control unit is additionally protected, the build looks clean and I like the feel as well.

The package contains everything you need to get started:

  • The Bob and Brad H50 hand massager
  • Ten disposable gloves to protect the inner lining
  • A small finger massager for individual fingers
  • A soft storage bag
  • A USB to USB-C charging cable without a power adapter
  • A manual

The disposable gloves are a practical addition. They protect the inner lining from sweat and are especially useful if you applied hand cream before the massage. I used a glove for the first test, later mostly without.

The small finger massager is part of the package too. It is meant for targeted massage of individual fingers and actually feels pleasant in use.

First impression: light, compact and nicely made

At around 700 grams (1.5 lb) the H50 is surprisingly light. The glove is compact enough to use on the sofa, at the desk or on the go in its storage bag. On the outside the device has a rubberised layer that gives it a pleasant grip.

The shape is uncomplicated: put your hand in, guide the fingers into the individual slots and start. Each finger is held separately. That creates not only pressure on the palm but a massage that extends into the fingers.

How the massage with compression and heat works

To switch it on, hold the power button for about two seconds. The H50 starts automatically in the relaxed massage mode, indicated by a turquoise light.

Inside, air cushions do the work. They enclose the fingers, gently squeeze them and massage the palm and wrist at the same time. It does not feel like mere vibration, more like a rhythmic compression massage.

Operation is via four large buttons on the control unit. It is pleasantly simple and, in my view, also easy to use for seniors or people with limited mobility.

Three massage programs with colour indicator

The M button selects one of three massage sequences. The colour shows directly which mode is active:

  • Turquoise: relaxed default mode when switching on
  • Green: medium level and my personal favourite
  • Red: most intense massage sequence

For me the green level was the best mix of noticeable pressure and pleasant relaxation. If you like it stronger, switch to red. In addition, the pressure can be adjusted in three levels via the lower button. So there are not only different massage sequences but also the option to adapt the compression to your own preference.

Heat function for palm and back of the hand

The heat function is activated with the right-hand button. It needs a brief moment before it becomes noticeable, then heats pleasantly and reliably in all tests. The warmth spreads evenly across the palm and the back of the hand.

With cold hands in particular, that is a very pleasant extra. The heat can be switched off again at any time, so you do not have to use it in every session.

15 minutes per session and everyday-friendly noise

A session lasts 15 minutes, after which the device switches off automatically. That is a good length: long enough for a noticeable break, but short enough to fit the massage easily into everyday life.

Of course the H50 is audible, because the air cushions inside are inflated and deflated. But I did not find the noise disturbing. It can easily run alongside a film or series.

A look inside: how the air cushions work

Inside the H50 the individual areas for the fingers are clearly visible. The air cushions contract when inflated and loosen again afterwards. This sequence creates the alternating compression you feel on fingers, palm and wrist.

The pressure is clearly noticeable. In my view the device has plenty of power, which I particularly liked. It still stays flexible enough, because pressure strength and massage program can be adjusted separately.

How does the hand feel after the massage?

After a session, the treated hand felt noticeably more relaxed and mobile to me. The comparison with the unmassaged hand made the effect particularly clear. The fingers moved more loosely and the whole hand felt less tense.

According to the manufacturer, the H50 is designed for tired and stiff hands and as support for complaints such as arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome. With health issues, however, a hand massager should not be seen as a substitute for a medical diagnosis or treatment. When in doubt, the manufacturer’s guidance and the advice of medical professionals apply.

Test at the desk: does it work during the working day?

The H50 also proved itself at the desk. As long as you do not have to type on the keyboard, you can use the massage in a small work break. With the free hand you can operate the mouse or your smartphone, for example.

The device does not tie you to a particular place. The hand can still be moved during the session, and thanks to the low weight the whole thing does not feel bulky. For me that is a clear advantage over larger massagers that first have to be set up or used in a fixed spot.

Battery, charging and build quality over time

The H50 charges via USB-C. The included USB to USB-C cable can be connected to a USB charger or directly to a PC. A separate charger is not included.

After about 30 sessions by my partner and me, the battery life was around five to seven full 15-minute sessions. How many sessions are possible naturally depends on the chosen intensity and whether the heat function is active.

I am satisfied with that result. For regular use the device does not constantly have to go on the charger, and charging via USB-C keeps things uncomplicated.

Verdict: is the Bob and Brad H50 worth it?

My partner and I now use the Bob and Brad H50 regularly. It is light, compact, well made and very easy to operate. Switch it on, put your hand in and off you go.

I particularly like the combination of separate finger massage, strong compression and switchable heat. The green medium level is the sweet spot for me, but with three programs and three pressure levels the session can be adjusted pleasantly to your liking.

In my view the H50 is particularly suitable for relaxed breaks with tired, tense or cold hands, after sport or as a small time-out after a long day at the desk. Thanks to the simple operation and the high-quality storage bag, it also makes a nice gift idea.
